The Science Advisory Committee (SAC) has the task to support the work of the LOFAR IT Board from a scientific point of view. The need of such committee has been assessed on October the 3th 2018, by the LOFAR National Committee (Board LOFAR IT), following the guidelines proposed by the INAF UTG-II (National Division to enable Radio-Astronomy) and by the Scientific Direction and approved by the Board of Directors on March the 23th 2018.

The SAC will have to suggest strategic research and development lines for the Italian community in LOFAR expecially regard to its evolution in LOFAR 2.0. It supports in the attribution of guaranteed Italian observation time, and assesses the project impact both in scientific and visibility terms. The SAC collaborates with the LOFAR DATA Working Group and with the INAF Technological group participating in the development ofLOFAR 2.0 in order to optimize the link and communication between the scientific, computational and technological components.
